30 Days with Mary – Day 10

Suffering with Mary

A mother never abandons her child, even during the most difficult times. In sparing no effort to care for her child, a mother stands, ever ready and attentive, at the child’s side. When a child is injured, it immediately cries out, “Mommy!”

We must do the same as Catholics! When faced with suffering and hardship, we should unceasingly call out to Mary, “Heavenly mother, help me!”

If the suffering we endure has its oring in sin, let us call out to Mary, refuge of sinners. If we are stricken with disease or illness, let us invoke Mary, health of the sick! If we are tormented with affliction, Mary is the comforter of the afflicted. Since Mary is, above all, a mother, we need only approach her with love and confidence.

On a certain occasion, a priest attended a sick person in confession. Suddenly, the person sighed loudly and lamented, “Father, if only my mother was here with me, but I am an orphan!” The priest answered, “My son, we have Our Lady who is a mother, and she does not abandon us, does not die and does not leave us orphaned.” The patient then replied, “May Mary come to my aid, and be my mother, and help me to suffer!”

Today, let us ask Mary to be our attentive mother!
